 How To Easily Install Social Media Buttons

If you’re a blogger, then you’re on several social media platforms. If you’re not, then you need to be! But, when your readers are on your site, can they easily find where else to follow you?

The easiest way to do this is to have Social Media buttons on your page. In my opinion, they need to be towards the top of the page so that they are noticed immediately.

When I first started blogging I had no idea what I was doing and after many hours of trial and error I figured out how to do it. Here are simple steps to insert your buttons on your site.

1. Find the button images you want to use. There are hundreds of free button images all over the web but I prefer looking on pinterest. Simply type “Free Social Media Icons” in the search bar and browse around. Whatever site you end up at, if they are free, you should be able to download the images. {The icons I use on this site are 32 x 32 pixels}

2. Upload the images, one at a time, to your blog. Your images will need to be hosted online and this can easily be done by clicking on “media” in your WordPress dashboard. Once they are uploaded, you will be able to click on the image and copy the URL for the next step.

3. Have your image URLs and all of your social media URLs ready to go because you’re going to be doing a bunch of copying and pasting next.

4. Now you’ll need to copy this HTML code and place it as text wherever you want it placed on your site. I have mine as the first text in a widget. When you insert your URLs, leave the quotation marks. Only replace the text between them.

<a href=”INSERT THE URL OF THE DESTINATION YOU WANT YOUR READERS TO GO HERE” target=”_blank”><img src=”INSERT THE URL OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ICON HERE“/ ></a>

5. You will need to repeat that for each one you have. When I do this for several icons I copy and paste it all onto a Word sheet so that I’m not constantly changing it in the widget.

I hope this helps! Please comment below if you have any questions or tips of your own!
