The First 5 Plugins You Should Install On WordPress

wordpress plugins

The best part about blogging with WordPress is the plugins! These are basically tools that you add to your site to help increase the functionality and customization. Be careful though. Too many can bog your site down.

Here are my top 5 plugins that I believe should go on any site.

1. Google Analytics Dashboard – You will need a Google Analytics account.

2. Disqus – This is a commenting plugin. I use it on all of my sites and am very happy with it. It is very user friendly and used by thousands of sites across the web. This makes it easier on your readers to comment without having to sign in all of the time.

3. ShareThis – I’ve tried plenty of social sharing plugins and this is still my favorite. It can be completely customized and display only the social sites you want to share. You can have it display the count too if you want.

4. WP-DB-Backup – Backing up your database is so important! This backup plugin is great because if you don’t want to back it up to your computer, you can have it emailed to you so that you never lose it. You can also schedule backups for every hour, day, or week.

5. What Would Seth Godin Do – This is a fabulous plugin that will have a little message box at the top of a post for the first 5 times someone visits your page. You can customize it however you want. You can prompt people to subscribe to your email, visit your Facebook page, anything.

There are so many wonderful plugins but these would definitely be my first 5.  And remember, too many plugins can slow your site down. Make sure they are doing you or your readers a favor!
